The Suburban comes standard with a Vortec 5.3-liter V8 SFI (sequential fuel injection) that's good for 331-horsepower and 348 lb-ft. (472NM) of torque, running through a 6-speed automatic transmission and 265/70R17 tires. This provides the confidence in driving and riding whether it is passing at freeway speeds, climbing rough terrains or traversing under various weather and road conditions.

All this power still comes with responsible efficiency, thanks to the standard Active Fuel Management and Flex-Fuel capability. Active Fuel Management is a fuel-saving technology which seamlessly shuts down half the engine's cylinders (i.e. shifting from eight- to four-cylinder operation) when the vehicle is kept at a relaxed pace. Flex-Fuel capability allows the V8 to function on E85 Ethanol, a biofuel with a mixture of 85% (more or less) denatured alcohol (from natural bio sources such as corn) and gasoline which translates to some TLC for Mother Nature.
